Aston Villa supporters have demanded that head coach Steve Bruce starts selecting Iceland international Birkir Bjarnason in his first XI.

The 29-year-old has made 19 appearances for Villa in the Championship this season, but just seven of those have been starts.

The midfielder came off the bench to score a super goal against league leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend, but was again left out of the starting team for Tuesday’s 3-1 home defeat to Queens Park Rangers.

Bjarnason, who is valued at £1.8m by transfermarkt.co.uk, was introduced in the latter stages of the clash at Villa Park, but the club’s fans have demanded that the Iceland international is handed a starting role in the coming weeks.

Villa have a big match away to Bolton Wanderers this weekend, and it will be very interesting to see whether Bruce feels Bjarnason has done enough to earn a starting role.
